I didn't notice the brightness toggling. To my eyes, I only saw the fade and no-fade toggling.

It does fix it. I switched it off and it quit doing it. I'll have to keep it off until 2.1 is out.
I'm really happy that the speaker cracking is fixed. Now I can leave it on all day without having to reboot. Loving that.
